MSDE 2000 upgrade query Posted: 20 Aug 2008 12:21 AM |
Hi all,
I have a upgrade question concerning upgrade MSDE instances hosted on a Windows 2003 Small Business Sever SP2 server.
Currently I have a default instance hosting 3 live databases as well as named instances for Sharepoint, SBS monitoring and Backup exec all running MSDE 2000 sp2. This is my assumption as after running the OSQL command from a dos prompt the version given was MSDE sp2 build 3790.
I would like to upgrade to SP4 and I have read the instructions that accompany the installation package from Microsoft. I have a few queries before I upgrade.
- Firstly should I upgrade to sp3a then sp4, or skip 3a and install 4.
- Reason for upgrade is 2 databases in my default instance require sp3a or later before I can upgrade the software that relates to these databases, so can I upgrade the default instances and leave the named instances as is or must i upgrade both default and named instances to the same service pack.
- Apart from making sure I have backups before upgrading is there anything else to be mindful of prior to upgrade?
Thanks in advance.

Hi
You can skip S3 and install SP4 as all packages are cumulative.
You can keep named intsance unupgraded but I would install SP4 on them as well.
There is a hotfix hotfix from(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899761) for SP4 to see configured memory via AWE , i do not think that it is your case.
PS. I hope you are aware of that MS stoped support SQL Server 2000 from April 2008 |
