PowerShell has been around for a few years now, and has introduced a new way of administering Windows machines through a combination of the best features of Command Prompt and Scripting, and powerful snap-ins and providers. Combining this with Piping functionality that goes beyond Unix shells and a new SQL provider with SQL Server 2008 (including compatibility with SQL Server 2005), it becomes a very real option for maintenance tasks.
Rob Farley owns and operates LobsterPot Solutions out of Adelaide, and is also a mentor with SQLskills Australia. He has been consulting and training across the SQL Server stack for over ten years, runs the Adelaide SQL Server User Group, and is a regular presenter at conferences.
